NIGERIA MUST STOP CRAWLING AND START RUNNING

AGADA UNVEILS LABOUR-DIRECT 2027 AGENDA

At a time when Nigeria's 66th Independence anniversary is being marked with renewed debate about the country's economic direction, Arch. Peter Agada, the 2027 presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), has used his Independence Day message to present what he calls the “LABOUR-DIRECT 2027 AGENDA FOR A NEW NIGERIA.”

The central language of Agada's message is deliberately direct: Nigeria, he argues, should no longer measure independence solely by the attainment of political sovereignty but by the country's ability to achieve economic security, social justice and genuinely independent democratic institutions.

His declaration that “we should not still be crawling. It is time to run” provides the political framing for the programme.

The agenda covers the economy, oil revenue, infrastructure, housing, electricity, employment, agriculture, healthcare, education, security, foreign policy, institutional reform and media freedom.

Agada's political profile has developed rapidly in 2026. He moved from the Labour Party to YPP after his exit from the Labour Party presidential contest and was subsequently affirmed as YPP's presidential candidate at a substitution/affirmation process in Abuja in August.

His emergence gives the Labour-Direct programme a formal presidential platform for the 2027 election.

The significance of his Independence Day intervention therefore goes beyond an anniversary greeting. It represents an attempt to package a broad policy programme around the idea that Nigeria's next independence struggle should be economic and institutional.
