LABOUR PARTY'S YOUTH WING UNITES, DEMANDS ELECTORAL REFORMS AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

...As National Youth Leader Prince Kennedy Ahanotu Breaks Record To Host 36 States & Fct Youth Leaders

Alhassan Abdulkareem Baba Reporting from Abuja live...

In a significant move, the Labour Party's youth wing has resolved to lead state-by-state reconciliatory engagements to address recent party conflicts and court interventions validating the party's National Convention held in March 2024.

This decision was made during the 2024 Labour Party National Youth Conference and Annual Meeting, attended by State Youth Leaders, Zonal Youth Leaders, national delegates, and National Working Committee members.

The youth leaders unveil Key Demands as follows:

- Electoral Reform: The youths demanded that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's government send an Executive Bill to the National Assembly to legalize BVAS and electronic transmission of election results in subsequent elections.

- Youth Welfare: They urged the President to reverse policies harming Nigerian youths, such as high fuel prices, electricity tariffs, and academic disruptions.

- National Youth Conference: The youths reminded the President to outline modalities and action plans for the proposed conference and ensure implementation of its decisions.

- Retirement Age Limit: They demanded legislation setting a 70-year retirement limit for public service positions, including the President, Governors, and elected officers, to create opportunities for younger generations.

The conference applauded National Assembly members' presence and contributions, urging further collaborative efforts to unify the party.

The youths also passed votes of confidence in National Chairman Barr Julius Abure, his National Working Committee members, and National Youth Leader Prince Kennedy Ahanotu.

However, it's essential to note that the ongoing leadership dispute within the party's youth wing, with Comrade Eragbe Anslem the former youth leader claiming to be the legitimate National Youth Leader has now been led to rest with the validation of Abure's NEC and NEC Nnewe national convention by justice Emeka's Abuja Federal High Court judgement.

These challenges over time even made the youth directorate of the party more impacting, and fostering the party's unity and effectiveness in pushing for electoral reforms.

The youths also agreed with a vote that the conference will now hold every November to foster unity and direction for the party in the different youth directorates across Nigeria.

The event was attended by all the 36 States youth leaders and the fct, and Dr Barry Avotu Johnson 1st who was elected to serve in the labour party as the national deputy youth leader south-south zone and others appointed to as SSA's representing the other zones across Nigeria.
